Karen Richards-Boyce:

Introduction:

My goal for getting into sign language and interpreting was for the accomplishment in helping others. I took to this language as a young child back in 1984. A teacher had introduced the language as an activity. I took right to it. My parents seen the interest of a young child who wished to continue an education in the field of the deaf. I had met several deaf people whom my parents introduced to me and help me during my education as a child. I was privately tutored for several years till high school. Once in high school I was lucky to have had a high school that also offered sign language as a course. I finished as top of the class and was selected as a interpreter for a fellow student my senior year in high school as another class. That's right I had an interpreting training as a class in high school. From that point on it was history!

My love for the language and the feeling of being able to help and be apart of something bigger was very interesting to a young person. Once finishing high school I went on to teach sign language and interpret as a young adult.
